Brigada Eskwela began in time for School Year 2019-2020 as the Department of Education Caraga Region formally announced the start of the National Schools Maintenance Week (NSMW), the annual week-long activity that mobilizes community partners to cleanup classrooms and beautify other school premises to provide students with an encouraging learning environment.

Nearly 1000 interested entities comprising Congressional, Provincial and Local Government officials led by the Congressman of the First District of the Province of Surigao del Sur, Hon. Prospero “Butch” A. Pichay, different public and private line agencies, business sectors, DepEd Caraga regional officials, Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents of the 12 Divisions, Division Office employees, District Supervisors, School Heads, teachers, parents and students participated in the Opening Program.

This year’s implementation conveys the theme, “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Paaralan.

Dr. Fidela M. Rosas, CESO V, DepEd Caraga OIC- Assistant Regional Director, emphasized in her message that Brigada Eskwela is more than just about cleaning schools to prepare for the opening of classes. It is also about providing the prerequisites of a good learning environment like safe school, enough supplies and instructional materials, furniture, equipment, and prepared teachers.

Moreover, Dr. Marilou B. Dedumo, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent of Surigao del Sur Division also underscored that Anibongan National High School is a national winner for Brigada Eskwela Best Implementer Medium School (Secondary Level) category in the country in 2018 and recognized as champion in Wrestling events in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa 2019 in Davao City.

These awards are the fallouts of the dedication of the school with the leadership of Ms. Jean G. Coquilla and its strong partnership with various community stakeholders. The presence of our partners encourages us to further do our best in making all our schools in this Division favorable to learning,” she added.

Meanwhile, the school formally received from line agencies and other stakeholders donations such as materials for building construction, medical apparatus, first aid kits, school supplies, food and cash incentives that nearly cost five million pesos. The participants also availed of other services like dental and medical check-up, one-stop shop, inputs on wellness and advocacy on DepEd programs.

In the afternoon, the event concluded with the words of commitment of Hon. Congressman Pichay who expressed his vision for Anibongan NHS to implement a sports clinic for wrestling events in order to develop more wrestlers to compete in the Olympics. The Congressman then asked the winning wrestlers to gather as he handed cash incentives to them and their coaches.
