Pursuant to ASEAN thrust of strengthening youth participation in disaster risk reduction and climate change mitigation, DepEd Caraga conducted its first Regional ASEAN-DRR Youth Congress on January 31-February 1, 2019 at the Amontay Beach Resort, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

The one hundred twenty-three (123)  participants were composed of DepEd Caraga’s DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management) Program Coordinators, the Youth Formation Coordinators, and select students from the different public secondary schools in the region.

The speakers from Educational Support and Services Division (ESSD) discussed various topics which included the mission, vision, and objectives  of the Regional ASEAN-DRR Youth Congress, Sexuality, Reproductive Health,  HIV-AIDS Awareness, Oral and Dental Health, Child-Sexual Abuse, and Online Bullying.

Aside from the lively discussions and personal interactions, the activity also provided avenues for creative competitions such as Slogan/Poster Making, Best Recycled Product, Spoken Poetry, Search for the ASEAN-DRR Youth Model, Best ASEAN Costume and Beach Games. Winners received cash, plaques, certificates and other assorted items.

On November 25 this year, the Second Regional ASEAN-DRR Youth Congress will be conducted in consonance with the celebration of the ASEAN Youth in Climate Action and Disaster Resilience Day.
