BUTUAN CITY – 02/24/2021
Employees of DepEd Caraga Regional Office virtually celebrated this year’s Philippine Heart Month with the theme, “Be happy healthy, ka-heartner,” organized by the Education Support Services Division (ESSD) headed by Bernabe L. Linog, ESSD OIC-Chief.
Regional Director Dr. Evelyn R. Fetalvero, CESO IV graced the activity as she shared a passage from Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” She highlighted that even though the verse talks about our “spiritual heart which is the center of our whole person,” it is of equal importance that we take care of our physical hearts.
Dr. Lorenzo O. Macasocol, CESO VI, OIC-Assistant Regional Director, welcomed the participants. Chief Linog gave a short historical background of the celebration of Philippine Heart Month.
In the morning activity, a lecture on Hypertension and Diabetes titled “Usapang Puso sa Puso” was given by Dr. Loreline Rivera-Pastor, FPCP. She discussed the different types and symptoms of hypertension and diabetes. She also provided ways to prevent said diseases through non-pharmacological treatments and a proper lifestyle. Ms. Ellen Grace Evangelio hosted the activity. After the lectures, Dr. Jumer C. Carlon, Medical Officer IV, facilitated the open forum.
Part of the activity was Dr. Annaliza D. Lerio’s talk on Oral Health Awareness, with emphasis on understanding why oral infections lead to system diseases. The participants then engaged in a one-hour Zumba Session dubbed “Dance your Way to a Healthy Heart” to end the celebration.
