BUTUAN CITY – 8/23/19
Six youth learners representing the Supreme Student Government, Indigenous Group (Mamanwa) and the Teenage Parents group from the 5 Schools Division Offices in Caraga participated in the National Summit on Adolescent Pregnancy on August 22, 2019 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City.
The said activity was a multi-agency collaboration by DepEd, DOH, DSWD, PopCom and other partners aimed to reduce, if not to eradicate, teenage pregnancies nationwide.
Titled “Kapit-Kamay,” the Summit adopted the theme, “Empowering the youth to make informed choices.”
Butuan City Division sent Arian B. Raypon, SSG President of Agusan National High School, and Samantha Isabel B. Dimla, SSG President of Libertad National HS.
Surigao del Sur sent Brian M. Seno, SSG President of Hinatuan NHS, escorted by Glee Cris Urbiztondo, the Division Youth Formation Coordinator.
Franc Kristell E. Almaden, the President of Senior Red Cross Youth and Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs of Siargao National Science HS, together with the Division Youth Formation Coordinator, Ms. Lowella Espanto, represented Siargao Islands Division.
The Indigenous People’s sector (Mamanwa) was represented by Miraflor D. Halawig of Mat-i NHS, Surigao City while Karylle L. Charito represented the Teen Parents Group.
The Caraga delegation was guided and managed by Dr. Rowena Salas, RGC, professional Psychologist and Guidance Counselor of Surigao City Division.
As the youth learners gained insights from the activity, DepEd Caraga’s education leaders expected them to develop the passion and commitment to eradicate of teenage pregnancies in the region by empowering themselves to make informed and responsible choices.
