Forty nine (49) Caraga athletes, a.k.a. “Brave Souls,” together with their coaches, parents, and DepEd officials, once again relived their victorious campaign during the 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City as the Regional Office formally acknowledged their achievements by handing over to them their well-deserved cash rewards today at the Teacher Development Center, Butuan City.
OIC-Regional Director Francis Cesar B. Bringas led the ceremonial turn-over of the symbolic check in the amount of P100,000, P10,000.00, and P7,000.00 for Gold, Silver, and Bronze respectively. The athletes won a total of 13 Golds, 10 Silvers, and 14 Bronzes (Individual and/or Team category).
“Hindi mo mararating ang success na ito kung hindi ka dumaan sa hirap,” Bringas told the athletes in his inspirational message.
Bringas then likened their success to the metamorphosis of the butterfly, a process which, though arduous, cannot be artificially hastened nor disturbed.
“In the struggle of the butterfly to get out of the cocoon, it is actually the squeezing of the fluid in the body of the butterfly that transfers to its wings so that it will become fully developed and will be able to fly,” Bingas explained.
“As athletes you have to go through the same kind of struggle and difficulty for you to be able to meet your success. You have to be placed under different challenges to make you stronger. And coaches would also have to respect the natural progression of the growth of their athletes,” he articulated.
“Their [athletes] presence here today,” Bringas said, “just proves that we have respected this natural progression of growth, and these athletes have undergone several levels of struggles, difficulties, and challenges just to be in this place that they are in now.”
Bringas then congratulated the athletes saying that their struggles and challenges actually made them stronger that’s why they succeeded.
Finally, Bringas encouraged the athletes to nurture their growth and success in their chosen sport. “You are designed to be there and excel in there, because that is where your talents are. Therefore, nurture the talent and be in the place where you should be …because that will bring you to greater success in life.”
After the ceremonies, RD Bringas invited everyone to a sumptuous “boodle fight” at the RPSU lobby.
