RSPC winners (Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur, and Butuan City) celebrate on stage at the JP Satorre Gymn in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte

Butuan City – November 13, 2018

Bayugan City Division dominated two of the three major events in the recently concluded 2018 Regional Integrated Students Activity (RISA), emerging as over-all champion in both Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) and the Regional Science Fair and Quiz Plus (RSFQP), even as Agusan del Sur bagged the over-all championship in the Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT).

More than 8,000 learners from both elementary and secondary levels competed in this event, held on November 5 – 9, 2018 in different venues in Butuan City and Agusan del Norte.  Contest venues included St. James High School and Beunavista SPED ES in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte for RSPC; Butuan City SPED Center and Butuan Central ES for NSFQP; and Agusan National High School and Ong Yiu Central ES in Butuan City for RFOT.

In the featured events in the RFOT, Bayugan City also grabbed the championship in Arabic Language Skills Competition, followed by Butuan City, and Tandag City. Top honors for the Harf Touch Competition also belonged to Bayugan City, followed by Butuan City, second, and Siargao Islands, third.

Other RSPC winners were Agusan del Sur, second place, and Butuan City, third place. In RFOT, Butuan City bagged second place, and Bayugan City third place. In RSFQP, Agusan del Sur settled for second place, while Agusan del Norte placed third.

The RISA, or the simultaneous conduct of three major regional competitions within one week, was first implemented in 2009 by then-RD Isabelita M. Borres and revived this year by RD Francis Cesar B. Bringas, CESO V. RISA’s main goals were to provide avenues for learners to hone and test their talents, skills, and knowledge in different academic and non-academic competencies, and to reduce the disruption of classes consequent to the separate conduct of said activities.

The RSPC kicked off on November 5 at the JP Satorre Gymn in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, while the RFOT and RSFQP officially opened on November 7 at the Father Saturnino Urios University Gymn in Butuan City.
