The Schools Divisions of Agusan del Sur, Bislig City, Butuan City, and Davao del Norte shipped 250 sacks of assorted relief goods to DepEd Siargao to help its employees overcome their struggles in the aftermath of the super typhoon.
Since the majority of the people in Siargao Islands are now faced with the ill effects of Odette, the donated items from the concerned schools division offices will certainly help DepEd-Siargao employees alleviate their burden, especially that the super typhoon left their properties with great damages.
Through the said assistance, the Schools Division Office of Siargao has initially distributed a total of 489 food packs to its personnel [in some districts] who were extremely affected by the heartbreaking devastation of Super Typhoon Odette.
Districts that had been initially distributed with relief goods are: Burgos, 59; Numancia East and West, 239; Sta. Monica, 150, and Division Office, 41.
The relief operation was responsive to the needs of DepEd-Siargao employees since access to basic commodities is very limited in the whole islands.
Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Nelia S. Lomocso thanked the chief of the four (4) SDOs for their unselfish act of kindness and generosity for the affected people of Siargao Islands, which is among the hardest-hit areas when Odette made its first landfall on the16th of December.
DepEd-Siargao is currently initiating a donation drive and is coordinating with the public officials and private individuals to gather additional resources for the next batch of relief operations.
“We are opening our donation line to provide relief to areas severely affected by the typhoon,” Dr. Lomocso said.
